Putput to Palie Road Upgrade

Putput to Palie Road Upgrade

Newcrest Mining Limited funded the project as part of the Integrated Benefits Package (IBP) agreement between Lihir Management Company (LMC) and the people of Lihir Island.

HBS won the contract to undertake a major 18 kilometre road upgrade between Putput to Palie. This section of road is part of the main ring road around Aniolam which is the largest island in the Lihir group and is where Newcrest’s Lihir gold mine is located. HBS through its commitment to local business and employment, partnered with local contractors to deliver the project over a contract period of 19 months. The island receives an average annual rainfall of over 3m, making constructing the 18km of road a real challenge in these conditions.

Works include constructing open concrete line drains, swale drains, clearing, earthworks, gabions, significant drainage installation, pavement construction, road sealing, road furniture and line marking. The road is designed and constructed to PNG Department of Works standard and has required the barging of sealing aggregates and precast to be sourced off island.

HBS was excited to be involved in this project. As a community company, we understand the importance of having good roads people can use to seek public and civil services to improve their lives.
