LGL - Mine Support Services
The Lihir Gold Mine is located on Aniolam Island in the New Ireland Province of Papua New Guinea some 900 kilometres north-east of Port Moresby.
The gold deposit at Lihir is within the Luise Caldera, an extinct volcanic crater that is geothermally active and is one of the largest known gold deposits in the world. In June of 2016, HBS was awarded a four year contract to deliver mine support services to Lihir Gold Ltd, a 100% owned subsidiary company of Newcrest. HBS’s scope includes supporting night shift operations with lighting around the pit, a 360,000 tonnes p.a. crushing contract and providing a fleet of equipment for performing general services within the mine.
To support our clients’ commitment to creating economic value to local communities, HBS has invested greatly in local employment and training of Lihirians.HBS has also engaged local business to participate in the ongoing services that HBS contributes to the mine. Logistically, providing a quality level of service to Lihir is testing. HBS Supply Chain has proven effective in assisting the site management to mobilise 50+ pieces of equipment and containers to site within a committed and tight 10 week program.
